PoliceWiki:Invitation email

From PoliceWiki

This is a rough draft of the invitation email to send to other Police website administrators, historians, etc. Please feel free to make any changes or suggestions -- the email won't go out until we're ready to launch the site.--Sockii 05:17, 7 February 2008 (PST)

Letter draft

Hello!

You are receiving this email today as an invitation to explore a new project being launched for Police fans around the world: the PoliceWiki.

http://www.policefans.org/Police_wiki/

This is an entirely non-profit, fan-run endeavor hosted by sockii as part of the policefans.org project. Thanks to your extensive contributions to Police fandom through the years, we’d like to welcome you to visit the site and view the work that has been done on the wiki to date. It is our hope that you might choose to contribute to its development and growth in the future with your knowledge and experiences.

The PoliceWiki is a project created for all Police fans. The goal is for fans of The Police, Andy Summers, Stewart Copeland and Sting to document the band's history in a format that is open to everyone’s contributions of information, reference materials, and experiences.

There is a wealth of Police and Police-related information on the internet that has been assembled and generated by a number of dedicated and hardworking people -- like you -- throughout the years. But the difficulty is that information on the band -- its history, its members, its accomplishments -- is spread out all over the place: a timeline of events over here; a discography over there; a list of related solo efforts elsewhere. There is also useful information scattered throughout decades of magazine articles and interviews easily lost track of through time, but which many collectors might have on hand.

The goals of the PoliceWiki are to make it possible to locate such information quickly and easily, to serve as a quick reference source where various types of information relevant to the band have been brought together into a single repository, and to make it so that information can be easily expanded upon by anyone who has details to add. We also want to give full credit and acknowledgment to individuals who have worked hard at documenting Police history to date. Through the Fandom sections of the wiki, we encourage fansite and community administrators to promote their own projects, providing a handy database of Police sites on the web which can be kept up to date by all who contribute.

Once again, thank you for your contributions to Police fandom through the years, and we hope we can work with you in the future. If you have any questions about the PoliceWiki, please contact us at any time, either via email or any of the administrators’ talk pages on the wiki (the list of administrators can be found at http://www.policefans.org/Police_wiki/index.php?title=PoliceWiki:Administrators).

Sincerely,
sockii
